You thought the Fear Landscape was the last of Tris's biggest fears, right? WRONG. She wakes up in a tank that is filling with water. Oh lawd when does it end?! Have you no mercy on this poor girl? But she has come so far, she can't just quit now. She stands up to find she was sitting in a pool of her own blood. Gross.. I'm wondering how much blood she is losing, because realistically it couldn't be that much, or else she probably would have died by now. Granted she was only shot in the shoulder. ANYWAY, to make matters worse, there is a video camera in the corner of the tank. Of course it isn't sadistic enough as it is. Let's just make it worse. I'm sorry, but Veronica Roth must really have a twisted sense of humor.
Tris attempts to break the glass, as this is how she faced this fear before. But in the real world, that type of business doesn't work. She has given up trying to escape and does her best to relax. I am impressed by the mental control she has over her emotions. She spends her last moments reminiscing of her childhood and better times than the present. BUT WAIT. Things can't end now. Her mom swoops in to save the day like a total bamf. Thank you lawd, you have answered my prayers! She just waltzes in and shoots the tank like it's no big deal. She takes Tris with her and they make a pretty sweet escape. Her mom even shoots some Dauntless guards. You go Natalie.
She tells Tris to find her father and Caleb, and then hands her a gun. Where is she getting all of this?! But hold on. Major plot twist.. TRIS'S MOM IS DIVERGENT. Oh my goodness, the world makes sense now. I understand everything. She transferred to Abnegation because she knew she could keep her secret on the down low there. But now, prepare to have your heart broken. Although she may not truly be Abnegation, she sure is selfless. Natalie sacrifices herself in order to keep Tris safe. She is shot by the Dauntless soldiers while trying to buy Tris time to sneak away. It's okay to cry.
"Pain stabs through me as if everything I am made of collapses, my entire world dismantled in a moment."
