Chapter 10

Tris finds her bed vandalized; the word "stiff" has been spray painted across the mattress. Personally, I would punch whoever did it in the face. Really? Like it isn't hard enough going through initiation, they just had to be an inconsiderate jerk and do that to Tris when she hasn't done anything to them? Anyway, I am getting off of this rant train. She turns to find it was Peter. Surprise. *sarcasm* He shoots her a grin, and I would have snapped, but some strength she possess allows her to handle the situation calmly.

She talks with Al briefly before they head off to training and realizes he may not be cut out for Dauntless. I personally am worried about what he will become if he keeps up with what he's doing. Anyway, once they arrive in the training room, Tris sees that her opponent is Peter. That's just fabulous. Even though she knows she could take the Al way of doing things, which is being a wimp and letting people hit you while you pretend to be hurt, she knows she has to try. She can't give up now. I admire her determination.

When the fight begins, Peter is being a jerk, as usual and decides that he should say nasty comments to Tris. I wanted to hit him,  but I guess that isn't saying much because I usually want to hit at least one character in this book at every point. Since I didn't really enjoy the gruesome details of Tris being beat up, I will make a long story short. Peter is a jerk and has an advantage of Tris physically, but she doesn't give up. She fights until she is barely conscious. Then I thought Four broke up the fight and took her to the infirmary, which I found chivalrous, but it turns out it was Eric. Oh.

When she is in the infirmary resting up, she reminisces about her first time in a hospital with her mother. She realizes that Caleb has shown almost secretive traits of Erudite all along, telling their mother she would be alright because he was aware of the fracture she had. Before she can do much more thinking though, she has some visitors. It ends up being her and Al and the end. He is like, trying to put the moves on her or something. It made me really uncomfortable and it did her as well. He leaves her with thoughts of Visiting Day, which happens to be the very next day. Try as she might, she can't hold back her tears any longer. It broke my heart to hear that she finally broke down. I guess it was only a matter of time, but I am still surprise she held out so long.

"Out of my peripheral vision, I see Four shove the door open and walk out. Apparently this fight isn't interesting enough for him."
