Simulations again today. Joy. I should apologize for my constant sarcasm and snarky comments, but, sorry not sorry.. :P The simulations are haunting not only Tris, but the other initiates too. Four tries to calm her down by saying it is just a simulation, but to that I say, HORSE POOP, because once the simulations start leaving the room, it isn't just a simulation anymore. This time Tris is drowning.
She is in a glass tank, surrounded by the other initiates who are laughing at her as the water is rising quickly from the bottom of the tank. The way the scene was described reminded me of a Saw movie. Tris tries to calm herself down enough so she can think of how to get out of the simulation. She starts losing control and slams her hand against the tank and holy cow. IT BROKE. But because this book is evil, that can't just be her happy ending. Apparently breaking the glass isn't something she is supposed to be able to do, so Four starts questioning her. He finds out she is Divergent. Oh dang.. Now things are getting serious. He protects her by deleting the footage, but there isn't much else he can do. It still helps to know that at least one person is looking out for her.
I'm going to go off on a small tangent here for a moment, so bear with me. I think it is a big deal that he finds out she is Divergent, but not for the reason you think. I realize it is very dangerous for anyone to know she is Divergent, but he isn't the type who is out to hurt her. I feel like it made their relationship more intimate in terms of closeness and whatnot. The fact that she didn't put up much of a fight in denying it says to me that she wants him to figure her out. That's why I can't get enough of their love story. It is as much of a mystery as it is romance. Thank you for having the patience to read through this long paragraph of me blabbing on about something that, in reality, doesn't have much emotional meaning behind it at all.
It is all a little too much for her to handle, so she goes to the only person she can truly talk to about it: Tori. She is warned once again to keep it a secret and that she must not let anyone find out about her Divergence. I feel nervous just typing the word. It's like after you read the Harry Potter books and you're afraid to say Voldemort. But her life is threatened by Divergence, so this subject is a bit serious. Tori explains that her brother was killed because he was Divergent and I think it hits Tris that it could happen to her, and it will if she isn't careful.
"These people taught you how to use a gun. They taught you how to fight. You think they're above hurting you? Above killing you?"
